20ft Container Platforms

What is a platform container?

Platform shipping containers are reinforced flat steel platforms designed to be transportable on infrastructure designed for shipping containers. Platform containers permit the transport of oversized cargo without the need to manually unload and reload the cargo when changing transport medium. These versatile units are also known as bolster containers or transiflats. Flat rack containers are similar to platform containers; however, they also feature end walls to allow the stacking of multiple units vertically.

20ft Platform Container Applications

Our 20ft platform containers fill important niches in the transport industry. One example is the transport of steel coil, which is dangerous to transport due to the extreme density of the load and its tendency to roll. Steel coil is loaded horizontally, permitting it to roll, because the centre of the coil can be used as a forklift tyne pocket. Our 20ft platform containers can eliminate this safety risk, as they feature standard container corner casts for lifting. Steel coil can be loaded onto the platform vertically, and the platform lifted with a normal container forklift. Intermediary depots which may not possess the specialised equipment needed to lift a steel coil vertically can use the platform container to transfer the load safely and efficiently.

Immensely Convenient

Our 20ft platform containers are endlessly convenient, featuring tie-down rails for securing your load, tyne pockets for empty lifting and a compact footprint which saves valuable space in your depot. With all our new 20ft platform containers being certified for transport, you can immediately put the to use without any bureaucratic overhead. With a wide range of applications, you'll be finding all manner of new efficiencies thanks to our platform containers.

Platform containers, also known as bolster containers, are typically available in either 20ft or 40ft lengths, with the height varying by manufacturer. Custom sizes can be ordered as required.

A platform container, also known as a bolster container or a flat-rack container, is a flat platform the width and depth of a 20ft or 40ft shipping container, with container pins in the corner so that it can be handled like a regular shipping container.

Some platform containers may lack tie-down rails if they were intended to be used only as a platform, never being used to transport cargo. These containers are rare and typically were manufactured to order by someone who never intended to transport cargo with them.

The payload mass of a platform container can vary based on the exact model and manufacturer. Generally, a platform or bolster can hold the same or greater weight then a similarly sized general purpose shipping container. The exact payload of each container will be stencilled onto the exterior somewhere, as is required for it to be certified to transport cargo.
